“They bring in the frost”…Asters-aster spp.-accorcding to our Native Americans. The asters-Latin for star- are the flowers that bring on the goodbye to summer.Ok now enough with introductions!Weed or wildflower I just like this plant.Like the goldenrod before it it brings on a splash of color to the landscape.Total species count is around 600 with a wide variety of colors-white,yellow,blue ,and violet. The pictured species is I am guessing is New England Asters-A.novae-angliae.I am open to correction here. You can find asters all over America with a heavy dose in the northeast. As the norm they can be found in thickets, meadows, shorelines. Not to be left out butterflies and songbirds like them.If they are showy it is a wildflower and otherwise it’s a weed-you decide!
