Just the prettiest little flower…

Spring Beauties-Claytonia virginica- is a perennial with five pink or white petals-flowering between March-May.The pretty flower is found in Eastern temperate deciduous forests. In this case it was found in central Illinois. It blankets the forest floor growing less than a foot high and opens only in bright light. Our Native Americans ate the starchy bulbs as food.No shocker here it is part of the purslane family-which is a common plant that is foraged.
