My star thistle-l adopted it anyway-has grown up over the spring and summer to produce a beautiful plant. It has matured into a 1.7m(5.5ft) high weed that I watched grow up in the corner of my neighbor’s yard. What luck ,they have not chopped it down but they are never outside. Anyway it has produced a lovely purple flower on top of it’s many branches and some flower heads have turned into pods and are dispersing their seeds. The thistle is one plant that uses the wind to disperse it’s seed-dandelions and fleabane along with trees are other examples of this method. The seed is attached to fine fluffy hairs which open out when the seed is shed to form a ball and floats away like a kite to form other colonies.
