How can a weed be called classic? The pic below is the pods from the common milkweed-Asclepias syriaca. The pods house the seeds and are the ‘final beauty” in the life of the plant. This idea is from Jane Embertson’s book “Pods-wildflowers and Weeds in their Final Beauty”. Basically she describes the final phase of the plants life-into the pod stage-just as beautiful as the flowering/growing stage. The plant changes into another use-distribution of seeds to make more milkweeds. More milkweeds for our struggling monarch butterflies.
