Prairie dock-silphium terebinthinaceum:

Bloom-summer to early fall, drought tolerant

Flower-yellow with ray florets,5-6 cm across

Leaves-spade shaped

Habitat-Midwest,prairies, seeps(a new one for me), limestone, roadsides, usual places for weeds

Faunal-bees,cattle, hummingbirds,gold finches

The final phase of the weed does exhibit a certain beauty of it’s own as it waits til next year.
