Coming soon to a car near you…tires made from dandelions !Tire manufacturer Continental is working on a substitute to rubber laytex.The laytex comes from the Russian dandelion-taraxacum kok-saghz(the plant which adorns most of our yards is taraxcum afficinale).The Russian variety has been discovered to produce gum elastic equal to the rubber plant and it only takes a year versus 7 years for a rubber tree.The plant is very productive as it will match the rubber tree and can be grown anywhere.That would be a beautiful site-a hectare of dandeloins!
